JaMarcus Russell, former Oakland Raiders quarterback, is facing foreclosure on his Oakland mansion and will end up losing his property if he does not pay within the next 3 months. According to reports, Russell owes over $195,000 on his 5,800 square foot property in back mortgage payments. The property was purchased back in 2007 for 2.4 million and will be auctioned if Russell does not come up with the money soon.

Russell’s Problems Following his Life as an NFL Player

Russell was drafted out of Louisiana State University by the Oakland Raiders. He signed with the Raiders in 2007 as part of a $68 million deal. But since entering the NFL, Russell has been a big disappointment to the NFL and to his fans. After signing his big contract with the Raiders, Russell gained a lot of weight and only won 7 games in 3 seasons.

However, his struggles on the field may be the least of Russell’s problems. He’s also had to deal with accusations of using codeine illegally, but was cleared of legal problems. Now he is having real estate problems and could possibly end up losing his home.

About JaMarcus Russell

Born August 9, 1985, JaMarcus Russell played college football for LSU Tigers and was named MVP. In the 2007 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders picked Russell signing him on with a contract worth somewhere around $61 to $68 million with a 3 seasons guarantee for $32 million. But he struggled on the field finishing 7-18 as a starter which ultimately led to his release in 2010.

Will Russell Come up With the Cash?

So far it is not clear if he has the money to pay back mortgage payments or if this is his choice not to pay. But one thing is for certain, if he doesn’t come up with the money in the next 3 months, his property will be placed on auction. Stay tuned!
